Deposits and withdrawals: methods, timelines, whether it comes back the same way

04Money: taxes, currency, deposits and withdrawals

All the examples, figures and the table in this article relate only to the brokers in the fxgnosis shortlist for Kazakhstan.

In short
  • The standard set: Visa/Mastercard cards, Skrill/Neteller wallets, crypto, SWIFT. Of the shortlist's brokers, Kaspi is supported only by FxPro.
  • A withdrawal almost always comes back the way you funded the account. It's an anti-money-laundering rule, not a broker's whim.
  • Typical timelines: wallets and crypto up to a day, cards 1-3 days, bank transfer up to 10 business days.
  • The broker's fee is most often zero. The real losses sit in currency conversion and third-party charges.
  • Before the first withdrawal you'll have to pass verification. You can't withdraw to someone else's card or wallet.

What people fund with from Kazakhstan

Direct funding in tenge at foreign brokers is rare. Of the shortlist's brokers, Kaspi works only at FxPro: deposits and withdrawals go in tenge directly, without conversion into dollars. The typical set looks like this: Visa and Mastercard cards at almost everyone, Skrill and Neteller wallets at most, USDT and Bitcoin at about half, SWIFT bank transfer at some. A special case is born2trade: there it's only cryptocurrency, no cards and no bank transfer.

Even when the payment methods are dollar-based, the trading account itself can at some brokers be opened in tenge: then conversion on funding happens automatically.

Does it come back the same way

Yes, by default it does. Under anti-money-laundering rules the broker returns money to the same source the account was funded from, at least up to the deposit amount. Profit above the deposit is withdrawn differently: AvaTrade allows any available method, Capital.com routes the surplus to cards or bank transfer.

There's an unexpected and important exception to this rule: at Exness for Kazakhstan, cards work for deposits only. You funded with a card, but you'll withdraw via Skrill, crypto or WebMoney, meaning you'll have to set up a wallet you may not have. So before your first deposit it's worth looking not only at the list of funding methods but also at the list of withdrawal methods: they don't always match.

A withdrawal is possible only to a card, account or wallet registered in the name of the trading account's owner. And before the first withdrawal request the broker will require verification: better to upload the documents in advance, not on the day you urgently need the money.

Timelines

The total withdrawal time is made up of the broker's processing of the request and the speed of the payment system. Most brokers process the request within a day; at Exness over 98% of withdrawals go through automatically, usually within an hour. The rest depends on the method: wallets and crypto up to 24 hours, cards 1-3 business days, bank transfer 3 to 10 business days (longest at AvaTrade: up to 10).

Fees, including hidden ones

The broker's own fee for deposits and withdrawals is zero at most. But there are exceptions, and all of them are in the lower price segment of the shortlist:

  • RoboForex always charges a withdrawal fee: Skrill around 1%, Neteller around 1.9%, cards around 2.6% plus $1.30 per transaction. Free withdrawal only three days a month: the second, third and fourth Tuesday.
  • born2trade withdraws with no fee only on the first and last business day of the month; on other days the payment network's tariff applies.
  • Libertex charges about 1% for card deposits; withdrawals to cards and crypto carry no broker fee.

Beyond that come charges the broker doesn't take: the card-issuing bank's fee, the payment system's tariff, intermediary banks' fees on a SWIFT transfer. Brokers honestly write “third-party fees possible”; Exness reimburses them.

The least visible cost item: conversion. If the broker account is in dollars and the card in tenge, conversion happens twice, on funding and on withdrawal, each time at the bank's rate rather than the exchange rate.
